- Now that the Open Mic Challenge is over I am visiting significantly less Open Mics than I used to. This means that more than ever keeping this website as up-to-date as possible is reliant on people like YOU posting in to tell me what nights are on and what nights are not. I will not be able to verify everything so I'm just going to have to take your word for it - all you have to do is contact me. Don't leave it to Open Mic hosts to get in touch, that happens much less than you might think. YOU are my Open Mic eyes and ears!
- In more exciting news..
Anyway, we want you there, that's all there is to it. Your Open Mic NEEDS YOU! From beginners to professionals, anything goes!
Here are wordsmith Joes thoughts on the saga....
"Hej hej Brightonians!
We are Baz and Joe, you've seen us around. We find you very attractive. With our golden locks, in the cold February glow of a Lapland winter evening you could just about mistake either of us as being Scandinavian - the same could be said of Brighton's Northern Lights bar, particularly after a Salmiakki or two. For this reason, and our shared love of herring, we thought it seemed like the perfect place to hold our new openmic night - you never know where the next Abba will come from. Or indeed, Opeth.
Our first night is on Thursday 8th August. You know how these things work - songs to be sung over three solid entertainment hours starting bang on 8 o'clock through til 11. We like to start early - there's a lot of cold Icelandic beer to be drunk. We might start the evening off with cajon-tinged acousti-punk, or a Turner cover or two, at which point we vacate the main stage area and gesticulate that the microphone has indeed become vacant of performers, open for business. It's business time.
And that's where you come in, my hard rockin' amigo - I heard you strumming that Foo Fighters cover that one time at the end of your houseparty when you thought we'd all passed out.. You were really good. Can you play anything else? It really doesn't matter if you bugger up that F# minor, no-one paid to get in anyway. Even if they had, more notes equals better value, right? Come on, you can even borrow my guitar, just don't come over all rock star after your first live set and set it on fire.
So put August 8th in your diary, and we'll send out more details soon - until then, check out the website at www.brightonopenmics.co.uk to get your weekly performance fix round town.
Baz and Joe"
